The Pledge We All Took

I once read in the paper a very dissapointing and sad headline. It didn't bring about any thought in me and i am very ashamed to say that i simply took my eyes the next instant without even bothering to go through the whole thing. It highlighted one very great problem or menace our country or any country faces for that matter. I myself and demostrated an act of stupidity and ingratitude by not bothering to go through the article. No, i am not talking about global warming or pollution or somethn like that. But I speak of the problem which troubles most developing countries today. Brain Drain or more broadly speaking ingratidude towards ones country. The headline, which i am not sure if had highlighted some other problem, was: "Everyone wants a Bhagath Singh, but in the neighbour's house."

The problem is a very saddening one. Most children today dream of going abroad and working there, preferably the US or some other place like that. Very sad the frequency and the very happening of this act. How could the people simply leave like that? Have they no responsibility or love toward their nation? None at all? Even after spending so much of their time here. After living on the resources and care the mother land provided, acting like a second mother to each and every one its' children?

We were once asked to write an article on the topic, Brain Drain. And I must say, I very much messed it up. But also that I do not regret it. For what I wrote was not some lie like I mostly did, but what I truly felt on the matter. The solution one offers to the problem, mostly, is oft somethn like, we should improve the living conditions, the salary, the syste, blah, blah, blah. It is simply absurd. And trust me, in saying so, I do not mean that we cannot do so, or somethn like that. But I simply mean that the very idea of HAVING to keep the citizens of one's own country in one's own country is absurd. Unbelievable. The acts of going abroad to work is no less than any other act of treason, for that matter.

I mean, what do these people think? That India is some schooling facility? Well then, wake up, coz its not. It is in fact a country. And most of all their motherland. They, reap the benefits of the country, their motherland, and when they are old enough, fly off to some other country to work just coz the conditions there are better. And if this is so, well they are not even worth being called citizens. They are simply people. And very ungrateful ones at that.

If this is so, why should the country care to keep such people from going? If they love the other country and the materialistic part of life so much, they are most welcome to leave the country and work there. But I only tell them this, that the so called happy lives they think they'll get there is simply an illusion. For true joy comes from serving one's own mother land and one's own people. And to the future of this country, we wish to tell that you have taken an oath just as the ones who had left. An oath to strive toward a better nation. A pledge that you love your country. A pledge, every single school day, for twelve years, to pledge your devotion. And to you, do I ask, please keep ypur promise. Please, be a better citizen. The ones who have left, have given no value or worth to their pledge. And to improve is upto themselves. We can do nothing but hope they return. But you, still left with a chance, a choice. A choice to either serve your country, to show your gratitude, to do your part or to simply care for your own desires turning a blind eye towards all your brothers and sisters who lie helpless and hungry, yearning for your help. Please, do think this over when you decide to leave the country to work abroad. We, the thinkers.india can only hope that your concience may lead you to the right path. For it is your country that needs your help. JAI HIND.
Thank You

secondly,i would liketo personally sugesst you that do take each aspect in cosideration.what i mean in saying so is that you must think of 'WHY'is this happening rather than focusing on what it leads too.im sure you yourself would realise the cause of this.i dont think so that it makes any sense to call them selfish or materialistic.they no doubt preffer better nad developed nation to work in,but just think WHY.PLEASE DONT USE SO HARD LANGUAGE as it may offend some one and plse dont mind me....if you feel i was wrong somewhre,do make me correct, for human learns fom mistakes.....

  2. i am very thankful to you, simmi for telling us what you feel. and yes, i'm afraid i might have taken the matter too personaly and used some very harsh language as you very rightly said. and you have also put forward a very relevant point and i thank you for that. yes, there are many factors that provoke them to take such a step. but surely that does not mean they ignore their responsibilities towards their country. many fail to realise this, and tell them, make them understand, is precisely what must be done. and true citizens, like yourself, simmi are the ones who can accomplish this. thanx once again for your comment. hope to hear from you again.
